A Toronto teen charged with manslaughter is the sixth person connected to last summer’s disappearance and death of a Markham woman.
In an update Friday, York police said a 19-year-old man from Toronto was arrested Wednesday and charged with manslaughter, kidnapping and other crimes linked to the death of Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui, 56.
She was reported missing by her family Aug. 9 and later that day, her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 SUV was found in Toronto, near Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue.
A few days later, Ontario Provincial Police officers say burned human remains were found near Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400 in Parry Sound.
They were later positively identified as Mui Aug. 21 by the Office of the Chief Coroner, say police.
Police examined a large rural property at 3821 Vandorf Sideroad in Whitchurch-Stouffville.
York police have called Mui’s death “a targeted” incident.
The latest person arrested in Mui’s death has been charged with manslaughter, accessory after the fact to murder, kidnapping, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
On Nov. 27, a 24-year-old man from Oshawa was arrested and charged with indignity to human body, conspiracy to commit and indictable offence, fraud under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and weapons trafficking.

York police say a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder remains in effect for 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko Hu of Markham.
In late August, the Canada Border Services Agency officials confirmed Hu had left Canada and fled to Hong Kong.
Police have seized two vehicles associated with Hu: a white, 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van with Ontario licence plate CWHW720 and a grey, 2021 Porsche Cayenne SUV with Ontario licence plate CTZT172.
Police believe the Porsche may have had a different licence plate attached to it Aug. 9 or in the days leading up to that date.
In an earlier release, York police said they believe Mui was transported in a Sprinter cargo van.
Three youths police say were found to be in possession of property belonging to Mui were also charged with gun and fraud-related offences.
According to York police, a 17-year-old boy from Whitby has been charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon and possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with. He also faces two counts each of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, possession of property obtained by crime and fraud under $5,000.
The accused has also been charged with careless storage of ammunition and possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.
