Senior Man Pleads Not Guilty in Deaths of Three Found in Burning Temple City Home
A 64-year-old man pleaded not guilty Monday to murder charges stemming from the deaths of three people whose bodies were found after a fire at a Temple City home in October.
Xuanhan Zhang is charged with murder for the Oct. 27 killings of Xiao Zeng, 53, Chaojin Liang, 70, and Wenxin Huang, 57, who were discovered dead inside the home in the 6000 block of Sultana Avenue, just east of Rosemead Boulevard.
The murder counts include the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders, murder while lying in wait and murder during the commission of an arson, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Zhang is also charged with two counts of attempted murder involving two other people who were injured.
He is accused of intentionally starting a fire at the home, according to the District Attorney’s Office. Authorities said the fire was knocked down in half an hour.
Zeng, Liang and Huang died of thermal injuries and inhalation of products of combustion, according to records from the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Hugo Reynaga told reporters that a roommate of the deceased victims approached deputies at the scene and was then detained as a person of interest. He was later identified as Zhang.
Zhang has remained behind bars since his arrest at 1 a.m. the day after the fire, according to jail records.
Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba ordered Zhang to be held without bail. He is due back Jan. 27 in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom.

洛杉磯縣地方檢察官辦公室稱，大火約在半小時內撲滅。法醫在驗屍後表示，曾、梁、黃三人，因高熱受傷（thermal injuries）及吸入燃燒物質死亡。
洛杉磯縣警局雷納加（Hugo Reynaga）介紹，案發後，死者室友找到現場警員報案，確認該處住戶張宣漢涉嫌重大，因故意縱火謀殺，被捕拘留。
