Posted on Wednesday August 28, 2024

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have issued a Canada-wide warrant for 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko HU, wanted for First Degree Murder in connection with the disappearance and death of Yuk-Ying Anita MUI.

On Friday, August 9, 2024, MUI was reported missing by family after they had not heard from her since 11 a.m. Later that day, her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 sport utility vehicle (SUV) was located in the area of Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue, in the City of Toronto.

On August 12, 2024, Ontario Provincial Police officers reported that burned human remains were located in the area of Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400, in the Town of Parry Sound. On August 21, 2024, the Office of the Chief Coroner positively identified the deceased as MUI.

Through investigation, it was learned that suspects were in possession of property belonging to MUI. As a result, three youths were charged with firearms and fraud-related offences. A fourth suspect has since been identified as being involved in her disappearance.

On August 27, 2024, a Canada-wide warrant for First Degree Murder was issued for 47-year-old ZhixiongMarko HU, from the City of Markham.

Investigators have seized two vehicles associated to HU, a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van with Ontario licence plate CWHW720 and a grey 2021 Porsche Cayenne SUV with Ontario licence plate CTZT172. Investigators also believe this Porsche may have had a different licence plate attached to it on August 9, 2024, or in the days leading up to that date. Investigators have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a man wanted in connection with the death of a Markham woman who went missing under “suspicious circumstances” earlier this month, police say.

Zhixiong Marko Hu, 47, is wanted for first-degree murder related to the death and disappearance of Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui, a 56-year-old realtor, York Regional Police said Wednesday.

Mui’s family reported her missing on Aug. 9 and her SUV was later found in the area of Finch Avenue E. and Warden Avenue, police said last week.

Const. Lisa Moskaluk said Wednesday police are investigating whether Mui was meeting Hu for a real estate appointment that afternoon at a property on Vandorf Sideroad in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ont.

On Aug. 12, officers found burned human remains just outside Parry Sound, Ont., about 230 kilometres north of Toronto, police said. The Office of the Chief Coroner later positively identified the deceased as Mui. Police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Police are digging into the disappearance and murder of a Markham real estate agent. Homicide detectives confirmed on Thursday morning that human remains found burned in Parry Sound earlier this week belong to 56-year-old Anita Mui. CBC’s Chris Glover has the latest on the investigation.

Any other information on Hu’s connection to Mui, or his motive, isn’t being released to “protect the integrity of the investigation in any further prosecution,” Moskaluk said, but investigators believe they have enough grounds to lay charges and issue the warrant.

Hu had no prior convictions and was not known to police, Moskaluk said.

Police believe Hu may have left the country, she said.

Suspect vehicles also seized

Moskaluk said investigators have seized two vehicles associated with Hu: a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van with the Ontario license plate number CWHW720 and a grey 2021 Porsche Cayenne SUV with the plate number CTZT172. The Porsche may have had a different license plate on Aug. 9, she said.

Police believe Mui was transported in the seized van, Moskaluk said. They are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the days before or after Mui’s disappearance to come forward.

On Thursday, three teenagers were charged in connection with the case, with investigators alleging they were in possession of property belonging to Mui. Police say they believe the teens used Mui’s credit cards at locations around the GTA after her disappearance.

The teenagers were all charged with fraud and one also faces several firearms charges, police say.

“Any connection between Hu and Mui, or the three youths, is all still part of the investigation, and that investigation continues,” Moskaluk said.

Investigators are asking anyone with further information to contact them.

Mui’s alleged murder is one of the latest examples of a what police say is a worrying increase in violent crime in York Region.

At a news conference Tuesday, YRP Chief Jim MacSween said violent crime, including homicide, shootings and carjackings, have surged in the region this year.

Police ID man accused of killing Ontario real estate agent, arrest warrant issued

York Regional Police say they have issued a Canada-wide warrant in connection with a suspect wanted for first-degree murder of an Ontario real estate agent whose remains were found burned.

Police said the warrant has been issued for 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko Hu for the disappearance and murder of Markham, Ont. woman Yuk-Ying Anita Mui, 56.

On Aug. 9, Mui was reported missing by her family after they had not heard from her, police said. Police called the disappearance at the time “suspicious” because the woman, who spoke regularly with her family, had been unreachable for days.

Investigators said her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 Sport was found about eight kilometres from her home in the Finch and Warden avenues area in Toronto. Police have said it is unclear how her vehicle got there.

The day she went missing Mui was supposed to visit a large rural property on Vandorf Sideroad in Stouffville related to her real estate business, police said.

A few days following her disappearance, on Aug. 12, police said officers with the Ontario Provincial Police reported that burned human remains were found near Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400 in the Town of Parry Sound, more than 200 kilometres from where she went missing.

The human remains were positively identified by the coroner’s office as those belonging to Mui.

Last week, police said three teens — two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old — were found to be in possession of Mui’s property, such as credit cards that were allegedly used at multiple locations in the Greater Toronto Area. They were charged with fraud and firearm-related charges.

A fourth suspect was then identified “as being involved in her disappearance,” police said, and the country wide warrant was issued for Hu. Police told Global News investigators believe Mui was at the property on Vandorf Sideroad for a real estate deal with Hu but they are still working to determine the exact relationship between Mui and Hu.

Police said investigators have seized two of Hu’s vehicles, a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van — a similar style vehicle police said last week was a vehicle of interest in the case and possibly used to transport Mui — and a grey 2021 Porsche Cayenne SUV.

Anyone who may have seen these vehicles previously, or spot Hu, are asked to contact police.
