A Myanmar woman from the United States who flew to South Korea and Thailand before returning to Yangon on March 26, and quarantined upon arrival, is the latest COVID-19 patient in the country, the Health Ministry said on Saturday [April 4].
The 24-year-old woman, who was quarantined in a hotel in Botahtaung township in downtown Yangon, exhibited symptoms of the pneumonia-like disease starting on April 2, developing fever, cough and feeling exhausted.
Authorities immediately brought her to East Yangon General Hospital, where she was isolated, and her swab sample tested. Results on Saturday [April 2] showed she was positive for the disease, making her the 21st COVID-19 victim in the country.
One of the COVID-19 patients, a 69-year-old man suffering from nasal cancer, succumbed to the disease on Tuesday (March 31),.
The latest COVID-19 patient, who is living in South Okkapala township, would be transferred to the Wair Bar Gi Hospital, where all the other infected patients in Yangon are undergoing treatment. She is currently in good health.
Two COVID patients are currently being treated at the intensive care unit of the Wai Bar Gi Hospital, while the other remaining patients are in good health and responding well to the treatment, the Health Ministry said.
