Import and sales permits are now required for importers to import commercial vehicles, according to a new notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on August 31.
The new rule was issued by MOC’s Supervisory Committee for Motor Vehicles, and will come into effect on October 1.
Only brand-new commercial vehicles are allowed to be imported via border trade centers and import companies will be allowed to import and sell vehicles through registered vehicle sales centers.
“Only brand-new vehicles are allowed to be imported via border trade centers. Both used cars and brand-new cars are allowed to be imported via sea ports. We announced that companies are permitted to import and sell cars via their sales centers,” a representative from the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw said.
As importers import vehicles with showroom consignment permits, the price of car showroom permits may see an increase.
