Investigations continue after students found dead at Burwood apartment complex

Homicide detectives are still trying to piece together what happened before two university students were found dead in an inner-west Sydney apartment complex yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the building on Conder Street in Burwood following a report for welfare at 8.45am yesterday.
The body of a 21-year-old man was found in the courtyard of the complex while the body of a 21-year-old woman was found inside a unit with stab wounds.

the couple were Chinese nationals who both attended The University of Sydney.
They had only moved to Sydney a few months ago.
Neither has been formally identified, however, police believe said ealrier today that they were known to each other.
Post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted in the next few days, which will confirm the identity of both victims and determine the cause of death.
Superintendent Christine McDonald, Commander, Burwood Police Area Command said yesterday that it was too early in the investigation to determine if the deaths were “domestic-violence related”.
He also said the man had ankle injuries, and it was possible that he had jumped from a unit.

A weapon was found at one of the crime scenes.
Investigators also said yesterday that CCTV showed a woman walking to the apartment earlier that morning.
Two crime scenes were established and investigations continue.

Young man and woman found dead at Sydney apartment complex were international students
The bodies of the young man and woman were found in separate places at the complex.

CCTV footage obtained by police showed the man and a woman, also 21, walking into a unit at the complex early on Monday.

The woman’s body was later found inside the same unit. She had been stabbed.

Inquiries suggest the pair were known to each other, police said on Tuesday.

they were international students from China who were studying at the University of Sydney.

The university’s vice-chancellor offered support to all staff and students on Wednesday, a spokesperson told

The man had sustained injuries to his ankles, Superintendent Christine McDonald said on Monday afternoon.

“Him jumping from that location is a possibility and is a line of inquiry,” she said.

A weapon has since been located by police.

Investigators are in the process of formally identifying the pair so their families in China can be notified.

while police found documents relating to their identities inside the apartment, the property may have been sublet to two other women.

McDonald could not confirm whether the matter was a domestic violence-related incident.

“Violence against any person is not, and will not be, tolerated,” she said.
