SAN DIMAS, CA – Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that Weichien Huang has been charged with allegedly murdering her wife and attempting to murder her mother-in-law with a sword (katana) at their home in the city of San Dimas on July 18.

“We are deeply saddened by this horrific violence and our hearts go out to the victims’ loved ones and community,” District Attorney Gascón said. “This tragic case demonstrates the insidious problem of domestic violence that affects many throughout our country. Our Bureau of Victim Services is readily available to assist the surviving victim during this time.”

Weichien Huang (dob 12/28/79) is charged in case 24PSCF00461 with one count of murder; and one count of attempted murder.

It is further alleged that the defendant inflicted serious bodily injury on a person 70 years or older and used a katana (sword) in the commission of the crimes.

Huang is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, July 29, 2024, in Dept. N of the Pomona Courthouse.

On July 18, Huang allegedly stabbed and killed her wife and injured her wife’s mother with a sword at their home in the city of San Dimas. Victim Fei Chen Chen was pronounced dead at the scene. Victim Hsi H. was hospitalized with serious injuries. The defendant was hospitalized, then discharged and booked on July 24.

The People are recommending bail be set at $3,000,000.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Suspect in deadly sword attack charged with murder, attempted murder

A woman seen carrying a Samurai-style sword moments before L.A. deputies arrive after a fatal attack on July 18, 2024, in San Dimas.

A woman arrested earlier this month in connection with a deadly domestic violence incident involving a Samurai sword has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

On Monday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Weichien Huang was to be charged in the death of her wife and the attempted killing of her mother-in-law.

Huang was arrested July 18 in San Dimas after Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the 300 block of South Huntington Avenue and found the woman walking the street while carrying a katana.

Video shared with KTLA showed the moment the suspect was approached by the deputies and laid down her weapon and held her bloody hands in the air.

Authorities said Huang then led them into a nearby home where one woman was found dead and another was wounded.

Details were limited about the case at the time because all those involved spoke primarily Mandarin Chinese, officials said.

Now new information has been revealed in the investigation, including the relationship between those involved.

The D.A.’s Office says Huang is accused of killing her wife, Fei Chen Chen, with the sword at their home. She also allegedly attacked her wife’s elderly mother, although she survived after spending a week in the hospital for treatment of major injuries.

District Attorney George Gascón called the violent attacks an example of “the insidious problem of domestic violence that affects many throughout our country.”

“We are deeply saddened by this horrific violence and our hearts go out to the victims’ loved ones and community,” Gascón said.

Huang was expected to appear in a Pomona court on Monday and be formally charged with murder and attempted murder, with special allegations that she inflicted severe bodily injury on a person over 70 and used a sword during the crimes.

Prosecutors were expected to request she be held on $3 million bail, the D.A.’s Office said. If convicted as charged, Huang could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Gascón added that the D.A.’s Office Bureau of Victim Services is ready to provide assistance to the surviving victim, if called upon.

The case remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.

San Dimas woman charged with killing wife and wounding mother-in-law with sword

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced charges against a woman who allegedly killed her wife and seriously wounded her mother-in-law with a sword nearly two weeks ago.

“This tragic case demonstrates the insidious problem of domestic violence that affects many throughout our country,” District Attorney George Gascón said.

Weichien Huang, 44, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if she’s convicted of the two charges levied against her: one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. Prosecutors added the enhancements of inflicting serious bodily injury on a person 70 years or older and using a sword in the commission of the crimes.

It happened on July 18 after Huang and her 47-year-old wife, Chen Chen Fei, started arguing at their home at the intersection of Bassett Court and S. Huntington Drive in San Dimas. Huang allegedly attacked her wife and mother-in-law with the katana, which is commonly referred to as a samurai sword, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Despite suffering severe wounds, the mother-in-law wrestled the sword away from Huang and ran outside for help. Fei died at the scene. However, her mother survived and remains in a stable condition, according to detectives.

Huang was hospitalized before being booked on July 24. Prosecutors will seek to hold Huang on a $3 million bail. Her arraignment is scheduled for July 29.

“We are deeply saddened by this horrific violence and our hearts go out to the victims’ loved ones and community,” Gascón said. “Our Bureau of Victim Services is readily available to assist the surviving victim during this time.”
