A Google worker was accused of killing his wife in this home. Now it’s for sale.
The interior is ‘freshly painted,’ according to the listing

714 Valley Way is for sale for $2.1 million in Santa Clara, Calif., May 21, 2024.

Yet another multimillion-dollar home just hit Santa Clara’s real estate market, adding to a seemingly endless selection of nondescript properties in the wealthy tech community.

Advertised as a modern four-bedroom home in the heart of Silicon Valley, the property has all the features that one would expect: a chef’s kitchen, new appliances, and a “fairy tale-esque” pitched roof. Though the Redfin post has only been live for three days, the home on Valley Way has received more than 30,000 views, making it a “popular” listing.

What isn’t immediately obvious about the home, however, is its bloody history.

On Jan. 16, an acquaintance called for a welfare check on the couple that previously lived there. Neither of them were responding to phone calls, and the husband, Google engineer Liren Chen, wouldn’t answer the door. However, the person who knew him could see into their home. There, he could see that Chen was “motionless on his knees, had his hands in the air and was staring blankly,” SFGATE previously reported.

When officers entered the home, Chen was “spattered with blood,” and his wife’s body was discovered in a bedroom, where she had suffered “severe blunt force injuries to her head,” the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office said. Chen has since been charged with murder, and his next court date is scheduled for June 7, records show.

According to the California Association of Realtors, sellers must disclose any deaths that occurred on the property and whether it was in the past three years. Real estate agent Sylvia Tian declined to comment further on the listing, but told SFGATE that a disclosure about the homicide “will be available soon.”

According to the Redfin post, “the home is freshly painted both inside and out within about a year, and features newer carpet on stairs.”

“Move-in ready,” “freshly painted inside and out,” and “conveniently close to everything” are a few of the descriptors in a Redfin listing for a Santa Clara home listed for $2,120,000. The home, located at 714 Valley Way, appeared on Redfin earlier this week and was built in 1960.

It has a two-car garage, air conditioning and is “outfitted with exquisite cabinets” and “top-notch appliances.” However, the listing fails to mention the home’s unfortunate history.

The California Association of Realtors states that sellers must disclose any deaths on a property listed within the last three years. K4 has reached out to the listing agent for the property for clarification. We have yet to hear back.
