In a recent incident that has sent ripples through Thailand’s tourism industry, a Chinese woman identified as Ms. Huang Jue Yu has been charged by the Thai Immigration Police. The charge came after she was found to be conducting online sales through live streaming without a work permit, a violation of Thai immigration labor management laws. The discovery was made during an investigation into a video clip that surfaced on social media on December 5, 2023.

Incident that Sparked the Investigation

The video clip in question featured Ms. Huang dressed provocatively and walking in Soi Nana, a popular area in Bangkok. The clip, which was perceived as damaging to Thailand’s tourism image, led to an immediate order for an investigation by senior Thai Immigration officials, including Pol. Lt. Gen. Itthipol Itthisarnronnachai and his team.

Ms. Huang’s Defense and the Immigration Police’s Response

Upon questioning, Ms. Huang, who entered Thailand with a Thai Privilege Card visa, admitted to creating the video. However, she claimed she had no intention of harming Thailand’s reputation. Instead, she intended to warn foreign women about the need for caution when visiting certain places alone. Despite her defense, the Thai Immigration Police charged her with working without a permit. She now potentially faces legal action.

Warning to Foreign Content Creators

In the wake of this incident, the Thai Immigration Police have issued a stern warning to foreign content creators in Thailand. They have been urged to avoid creating and disseminating negative or false narratives that could impact Thailand’s tourism image and atmosphere. The police have made it clear that foreigners involved in such activities could face legal consequences and even be blacklisted.
